The OT provides a thorough assessment of a client's home to determine potential safety hazards and offers solutions to address the concerns.
-
Example 1: The home's address numbers are not easily visible from the street. This makes it difficult for emergency services to locate the home efficiently in-case of an emergency.
-
Solution: Increase the visibility of house numbers.
-
-
Example 2: The glass shower door makes it difficult for a caregiver to assist the client with showering.
-
Solution: Replace the glass door with a shower curtain to allow for easier access and add appropriate shower seat for the client.
-
-
Example 3: There are two steps to enter from the garage with no railings.
-
Solution: OT recommends railing options to add to each side of the steps to reduce fall risk.
